Man Utd are seriously considering an approach for a struggling Real Madrid man in January, while Chelsea are monitoring a Hertha Berlin striker for when their transfer embargo is lifted, according to Friday’s European papers.
UNITED CONSIDERING RAID FOR STRUGGLING REAL MADRID STAR
Manchester United are giving serious thought to the capture of struggling Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic in January, according to reports.
The Serbian moved to the Bernabeu over the summer in a €65m switch from Eintracht Frankfurt, but has found the step-up in class difficult and has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings, scoring just once in his 10 appearances for Los Blancos so far.
That has led to speculation that Real coach Zinedine Zidane could be looking to move the player on – either on a temporary or a permanent basis – in January, leading Bleacher Report to suggest United are looking at their options.
Spanish publication Marca also suggests Zidane has been left unimpressed by the striker and believes some time away could do his flagging confidence some good, with a loan move to United suggested as a decent solution for all parties.
It’s claimed that while United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would only consider a loan for the player if it contained an option to buy at the end of the arrangement as the Red Devils would not want to develop a player merely for another club’s gain.
However, he could become a viable option, especially with Solskjaer and United very much in the market for more firepower in the January window.
United have also been linked Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, more on him below, but the Argentine would cost considerably more, while any move for Mario Mandzukic would only be considered as a short-term solution too.
The report claims Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on Jovic’s situation and could also look to pounce should Real give any firm indication they are willing to let him move on, though it’s suggested the LaLiga giants would prefer to deal with United and help smooth the way for a future swoop on Old Trafford for long-term midfield target Paul Pogba.
