Liverpool want to sign a 21-year-old Russian as a back-up striker, while Arsenal have made a £25million bid for a defender, all in Sunday’s papers.

REDS IN FOR RUSSIAN

Liverpool have joined the long list of admirers for CSKA Moscow striker Fedor Chalov, according to the Mirror.

Chalov is rated at around £20million, according to the exclusive, after a season where he was the Russian Premier League’s top scorer on 15 goals, with two in the Champions League, as well as contributing seven assists.

The 21-year-old scored against Arsenal in the 2017-18 Europa League quarter-finals, and they have been tracking him ever since, while a goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage last December seemingly alerted the rest of Europe.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham as well as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco and Sevilla are all thought to be admirers of the two-cap Russia forward.

The problem Liverpool may have is that Chalov “is looking for playing time” and that may prove difficult at Anfield with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah all likely to be ahead of him.

Jurgen Klopp though is thought to be considering adding to his squad after the departure of Daniel Sturridge with youngster Rhian Brewster still an unknown quantity.
