Norwich City have reportedly thrown their hat into the ring for Leeds United and Tottenham target Alex Scott, of Bristol City.
Scott has enjoyed a breakout season for Bristol City in the Championship this year. The 18-year-old midfielder has played 36 league games, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
Indeed, he is showing his quality in his first full season of senior football. He had played just three first-team games before this season, completing 90 minutes in one of those.
Scott has also shown his nature as a utility man this term. He has been deployed throughout each central midfield role, as well as up top, and as a wing-back.
Given his qualities, Premier League sides have begun to take notice. It was recently revealed that Scott was on the radar of both Leeds and Tottenham.
Both sides were reported to have sent scouts to watch Scott in Bristol City’s 1-0 win over Stoke earlier in the month.
Now, a surprise suitor has also thrown their hat into the ring. Football League World reports that Norwich are also keen on the youngster.
They may find it tough to contend with the other interested parties for a number of reasons, however.
One of those reasons is their Premier League survival being very much in doubt. The prospect of a move to another Championship side may not be too attractive.
The Canaries could go down at the weekend should results go against them. A loss against Aston Villa and a Burnley win would see Dean Smith’s side drop back into the second tier.
Price tag could hinder Norwich, Alex Scott pursuit
Scott is reportedly valued at £10m by Bristol City. Recent reports state that Leeds would be more than willing to cough up that sum.
What’s more, it is likely that Tottenham would also have no issues in doing so.
However, paying £10m for an 18-year-old with one season under his belt could prove a tricky task for Norwich. Indeed, the Canaries have never paid more than £9.9m for any player.
Christos Tzolis, who they paid that fee for, has played just 14 times for Norwich so far. As such, they might think twice about spending that on anybody, not least a youngster who is not yet an established star.
