Liverpool’s chances of signing Norwich left-back Jamal Lewis could increase if the Canaries firm up their initial interest in exit-bound Yasser Larouci, according to a report.
Reports on Tuesday claimed Liverpool are keen on Lewis, 22, as they hunt for left-back cover. Andy Robertson is their only senior recognised first-teamer, with James Milner deputising most often.
The Independent claimed that Liverpool would have to pay £10million to sign the Northern Irishman. Klopp is reportedly a top admirer and believes he can “thrive” at Anfield.
However, The Telegraph now claims that Norwich would want at least £20million. The relegated Canaries feel no pressure to sell one of their prized assets.
What’s more, after they dropped down a division, they could create a bidding war between those keen on Lewis.
Should Liverpool reject that fee, however, Sky Sports News adds that Norwich could give the Reds a lifeline.
Daniel Farke’s side have shown interest in Larouci, who Liverpool have told is free to find a new club. The Algerian’s prospects look limited at Anfield, having appeared only twice this season.
What’s more, Liverpool could strike an agreement with Norwich similar to the one reached that allowed Kevin Stewart to leave. Stewart joined Hull in 2017, allowing Robertson to move to Merseyside.
Earlier reports claimed Leeds United and Brentford want to sign Larouci, 19.
In any case, a move for Lewis would depend on the player’s wishes. The 22-year-old has a regular place in Farke’s side and would have to work significantly harder to earn game time at Anfield.
Lewis made 28 Premier League appearances this season, chipping in with one goal.
LIVERPOOL HANDED HOPE OVER CENTRE-BACK DEAL?
Meanwhile, a reliable source has offered hope over Liverpool’s reported move for Aissa Mandi.
The Real Betis centre-back looks likely to leave this summer, with only one year remaining on his contract.
Liverpool have allegedly had an initial £9million bid rejected but the Liverpool Echo claims the interest “makes sense”.
