Manchester United could miss out on Jadon Sancho after a strange ruling from Ed Woodward, while Newcastle are being linked with two midfielders, according to Saturday’s paper gossip.
JADON SANCHO DEAL IN DOUBT FOR MAN UTD
Manchester United could miss out on the signing of Jadon Sancho after a strange transfer decision from Ed Woodward.
United have been hot on the trail of the 20-year-old Borussia Dortmund winger all year.
And while personal terms have reportedly been agreed, striking a deal with Dortmund has proved tricky.
The Bundesliga side are determined to stick to their £100m asking price for the former Man City man.
But United are looking to pay considerably less – reports recently stated they had made a cheeky £50m opening bid.
Now it seems their hopes of landing Sancho have taken another backward step.
According to the Evening Standard, via the Daily Express, Woodward has put a £70m transfer ceiling on any transfer this summer. They state that United’s transfer guru has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer they won’t spend more on any individual player.
Woodward is believed to have taken out a £140m loan to help United through the world global economic downturn. While the intention is there to spend, it seems the £70m ceiling could end their Sancho hopes.
Solskjaer hinted earlier this week he has spoken to Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire about Sancho.
“I think for English internationals, for example, you speak to Marcus,” Solskjaer told the High Performance podcast.
“‘What do you think of such and such team-mate of yours? Do you think he’ll fit?'”
United could however raise some additional sums by offloading some players. A report earlier this week claimed six were set to be shown the door.
