Roma have confirmed that they are in talks to make Chris Smalling’s loan move from Manchester United permanent, while a PSG chief has made contact with the entourage of a Tottenham star – all in Friday’s European papers.
ROMA CHIEF CONFIRMS SMALLING APPROACH
Roma team manager Morgan De Sanctis has confirmed that the club are working to turn Chris Smalling’s loan move from Manchester United into a permanent deal.
Smalling, who fell out of favour under Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the arrival of Harry Maguire from Leicester, was allowed to leave for the Serie A giants on a temporary move.
The centre-back has enjoyed a resurgence since moving to Italy, turning in a Man of the Match performance against Lecce in September before captaining the side in a recent Europa League clash against Istanbul Basaksehir.
Recent reports have suggested that Roma want to extend Smalling’s stay at the club and, speaking to Calciomercato, De Sanctis confirmed that talks are already underway.
“You know very well that the club are trying to find a solution that makes everyone happy,” he said.
“The will is strong but you have to take the right steps, without getting caught up in the excitement. The footballer reiterates on a daily basis that he is happy at Roma.”
Roma currently sit fifth in the Europa League table, nine points off leaders Inter Milan.
