Liverpool will have to fight off competition from Lazio as they look to sign a €20m-rated back-up addition, while Tottenham receive a boost in their efforts to sign a midfield star – all in Wednesday’s European papers.
LIVERPOOL FACE COMPETITION FOR CAKIR
Liverpool will have to fend off competition from Lazio if they want to sign Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to a report.
The 23-year-old, who has been at the club since 2012, has made 18 appearances so far this season, shipping 24 goals and only keeping one clean sheet in that time.
The goalkeeper’s agent has already confirmed that Liverpool are one of four clubs keeping tabs on his client and Turkish outlet Aksam (via Calciomercato) sheds more light on the situation.
It is claimed that Lazio are set to join the race with Liverpool for Cakir’s signature, with Juventus and RB Leipzig quoted as also being interested in his services.
As for Liverpool’s interest, boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be aware that with the contract of back-up goalkeeper Adrian, 32, lasting until the summer of 2022 at the latest, the manager is looking for a long-term replacement.
Cakir, a two-cap Turkey international, has made 52 appearances for Trabzonspor, managing 10 shutouts to date.
