Manchester United’s plans to add to their thin forward line have seen a double blow, while United are one of the club’s chasing a precocious 17-year-old, all in the Euro papers.
LIVERPOOL IN FOR HAALAND
Liverpool are one of the clubs in the running for Red Bull Salzburg scoring sensation Erling Haaland, according to a report.
The 19-year-old blasted his fifth hat-trick of the season on Sunday helping Salzburg to a 3-0 win over Wolfsberger. The son of Alf-Inge Haaland now has a staggering 26 goals in 18 games for the Austrian side, including seven in the Champions League.
It’s not surprising all of Europe’a big guns are tracking the player, with Don Balon stating that Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona as admirers of the forward.
The Spanish source also claims Liverpool are now being talked up as one of those in the running for Haaland, who only scored once in the Austrian Bundesliga last season.
That will come as bad news to Manchester United, who have previously been linked with making a move for the striker.
European champions Liverpool are obviously a more attractive proposition than United right now.
The player’s agent is Mino Raiola, who also represents Paul Pogba, and he is understood to be working behind the scenes to securing the best possible move for the Norway star, who Tuttosport recently claimed had an £86m price tag put on his head.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan are hoping to snap up Napoli forward Dries Mertens on a free transfer next summer with Gazzetta Dello Sport claiming the deal has been agreed.
United have been liked with the Belgium star previously and it’s understood they were considering the 32-year-old attacker as a experienced free-transfer signing next summer, but Inter look like being in pole position.
