Paper Talk: Top three transfer targets emerge for Man Utd as asking price is lowered; Tahith Chong lines up January loan

Manchester United could sign a striker for a reduced fee in January, while two of their summer targets have been made clear, while Wolves are keen on a £20m-rated Real Madrid playmaker, according to Monday’s newspapers.

UNITED SEE MANDUZKIC ASKING PRICE REDUCED

Manchester United have reportedly been given a boost in their bid to strengthen their attack in January after the asking price for Mario Mandzukic was reduced.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed his side will be in the market for a new striker when the January transfer window opens and it is thought the club plan to go back in for Mandzukic after missing out on the veteran Croatian over the summer.

And while United came close to signing the 33-year-old for £14m back in August, the Daily Mirror reports that Juventus have now lowered the asking price for Mandzukic to just £9million ahead of the winter window.

Mandzukic has not featured at all for Juventus this season while new boss Maurizio Sarri has also left the Croatian out of his Champions League squad – making a move to Old Trafford something of a no-brainer for the veteran striker.

It’s reported United are willing to match Mandzukic’s £4.5m a year salary (£85,000 a week), with an 18-month deal expected to be tabled in the coming weeks.

The London Standard, meanwhile, reports that Solskjaer has ordered United to step up their pursuit of Leicester playmaker James Maddison.

The 22-year-old has made an excellent start to the season and Solskjaer believes the England squad man could add some much-needed creativity to his midfield.

However, while Solskjaer would swoop to bring Maddison in during January, it’s expected that any deal would likely take place next summer – with Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers also admitting the player could be tempted away.

The Standard also reports that Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho will also be targeted next summer, with the England winger described as Solskjaer’s ‘dream signing’.
