Paper Talk: Spurs agree £54m deal – but move hinges on huge sacrifice

Gareth Bale could be heading to Tottenham in a £54m deal, while Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa has eyes on a Liverpool star with a view to signing him on loan, according to Tuesday’s papers.

SPURS WILLING TO SPEND £54M ON BALE

Tottenham look set to offer Gareth Bale an exit from Real Madrid – and have agreed to pay the Spanish giants the £54m asking price, claim reports.

The Wales winger is set to leave the Bernabeu this summer after becoming surplus to requirements under Zinedine Zidane.

Despite a lack of interest in his services so far, Spurs look ready to welcome their former player home and are primed to make a move. However, as with all these things, there is a catch….

Bale is currently earning a reported £600,000-a-week and, unsurprisingly doesn’t want to leave the LaLiga giants and is happy to see out his contract, which runs until 2022.

And while Tottenham are happy to pay the reduced €60m asking price for his services, the Daily Express claims they have made it clear to his agent Jonathan Barnett that they can’t afford to match his wages. The report says, even at a push, Bale would have to consider a minimum 50% drop in wages to make the move.

It all looks set to leave Los Blancos with a difficult decision to make and they may have to pay the player up to force his exit at the Bernabeu.

Having spent over £250m on players this summer, including new signings Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo, the club are desperate to claw some of that outlay back – but it could end up costing them a sizeable portion of their Bale sale to rid themselves of the Welshman.

Bale managed to score eight goals and chipped in with three assists in 29 La Liga appearances last season as Real finished third behind champions Barcelona and city rivals Atletico.

And Bale is not the only player set to leave Real this week, with a deal to take James Rodriguez to Atletico likely to go through for €42m (£38m).
