Tottenham are set to follow up on their first pieces of transfer business in 18 months by swooping for another five players this summer, according to a report.
The Champions League finalists ended their long 571-day wait to make a new signing by announcing the captures of Jack Clarke from Leeds and, Tanguy Ndombele, in a club record deal from Lyon, in the same day.
However, their business is unlikely to end there with Mauricio Pochettino’s side said to be working on as many as another five new arrivals this summer, which the club hopes will transform them into genuine title contenders.
And the Daily Mail reports the arrivals of Clarke and Ndombele will spark what promises to be ‘a hectic summer of ins and outs’ in north London, with a move for Giovani Lo Celso likely to be revisited as their next priority.
A £53m bid for the Real Betis midfielder was rejected last month, and it has been claimed that £70m would be enough to strike a deal for the Argentina star, whose nation crashed out of the Copa America on Tuesday evening.
Tottenham also remain keen on a deal for Fulham wing-back Ryan Sessegnon, with Pochettino said to be keen to complete a move before July 8. The Cottagers are said to value the player at the £45m mark, but with just a year left on his contract, Spurs are hopeful they can persuade their London rivals to sell for a fee of around £25million.
Pochettino is also hoping Spurs can negotiate a deal for his twin brother, Steven, as part of the package and the Mail claims those talks are ‘ongoing’ as the clubs look to reach an agreement.
Tottenham also want to sign Norwich full-back Max Aarons as a replacement for Kieran Trippier, who looks set to move on. A move to Italy still looks the most likely scenario for the England full-back and the Premier League side could even make a marginal profit with a deal for Aarons reportedly set to cost just £15million.
Spurs have also told Real Madrid they want midfielder Dani Ceballos included ‘as a possible makeweight’ in any Real Madrid deal for Christian Eriksen this summer. The Dane looks set to move on with a knockdown fee of €70m being suggested.
Spurs also plan to ‘increase their spending power’ by selling players, with Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier – in light of the capture of Ndombele – ‘among those for whom they are open to offers’.
