Arsenal are close to unveiling a Brazilian striker as their first new arrival of the summer, while Federico Chiesa’s future has been made clear to Liverpool, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

ARSENAL SET TO ANNOUNCE £6M STRIKER SWOOP

Arsenal are on the brink of unveiling their first signing of the summer, according to reports in Brazil.

The Gunners have long been on the trail of Gabriel Martinelli and Globo Esporte claims the deal will be announced in the coming days with the striker turning 18 on Tuesday.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is reported to have beaten Manchester United, Fiorentina and Real Betis to the signing of the teenage forward, with more details emerging over the deal.

According to the Brazilian paper, the Gunners will pay his club Ituano around €6.5m (£6m) to sign Martinelli, with the teenage striker set to sign a five-year contract in north London until summer 2024.

The deal is expected to go through without too many issues for Arsenal, with Martinelli having already travelled to Europe to obtain an Italian passport, and likely to obtain a work permit from the FA as a result.

Despite his tender years, Martinelli is likely to be added to Emery’s first-team options from next season and is seen as Danny Welbeck’s replacement in the Gunners squad.
